Class A & B finished up the Area Tournament last night, and a bunch of local teams had some success. In Class B boys action from Woodward, the Leedey Bison punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 43-33 win over Goodwell. Drake Page had 13 for the Bison.
In Class A AB is headed to the state tournament for the 3rd straight year with a 60-49 win over Texoma. Brett Griffith had 22 Ryan Carlisle 16 for the Indians. Canute’s headed to the Class A boys state tournament for the 3rd time in school history courtesy of a 50-42 victory over Cyril. Colt Randall led all scorers with 16, Jaxon Beck chipped in with 14 and Kyron Whinery scored 10.
Both Merritt teams were unable to win Regional titles last night in Fairview. The Oilerettes fell behind early and never recovered in 45-29 loss to Hooker. Ella Porter led Merritt with 7. The Oilers fought hard but ultimately fell to Hooker as well 60-58 in double OT. Kobe Skelton scored 19 with Jace Hamilton chipping in with 15. Both Merritt teams will still advance to tomorrow’s 2A Area tournament. The Oilerettes and Am-Po tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 followed by the Oilers against Pawnee at 3:00. The Elk City Elks came up a little short of an Area tournament appearance in a 55-44 loss to Bethany. The Elks led by 5 at halftime and had the game tied at 36 early in the 4th before Bethany put together a 12-0 run to pull away from good. Elk City dominated the second quarter and took the lead with this steal and slam ….. Kye Keyes paced the Elks with 15. Elk City ends up 11-15 in Coach Sam Stephens’ 3rd season.
