The Elk City Festival rolled on yesterday on the slow pitch softball field. The Elkettes split two games, outslugging Chickasha 12-9 but falling to Minco 12-8. Arnett split two, outlasting Minco 14-13 but losing to Navajo 14-4, Navajo also whitewashed Chickasha 24-0, Canute beat up Sayre 16-5 but fell to Shattuck 20-9. Shattuck also pummeled Wford 16-2, Duke shut out Wford 13-0 and outscored Cheyenne 13-10
In other slow pitch action, L-S smoke AB 15-5, Binger-Oney flogged Hammon 14-2, FCB beat MVG 9-5, Hobart blanked Sentinel 3-0, Merritt beat up on Granite 12-2, Blair clipped Snyder 8-7
Big Elk Baseball is in the driver’s seat of district 4A-4 after a thrilling win yesterday in Clinton. The Elks trailed the Red Tornadoes 7-6 in the 6th before scoring once in the 6th to tie it then taking the lead for good on a two run single in the top of the 7th courtesy of Kayden Holder. Clinton scored one in the 7th but stranded the tying run on 3rd as the Elks prevailed 9-8. Cooper Church got the win on the hill for Elk City, Aiden Hopper earned the save. Kash Mayfield went 2-4 knocking in 4 for the Big Elks. Grady Gaunt had 3 hits for Clinton. The win completed a two game sweep of the Reds and gives Elk City a full two game lead over both Clinton and Wford in the race for a district championship. Wford completed a two game sweep of Kingfisher with an 11-1 win. With just a couple district games left the standings look like this: Elk City’s out front with a perfect 8-0 district mark. Wford’s second at 8-2. Clinton’s 3rd with a 6-2 record. Kingfisher’s 4th at 6-4. Woodward’s 5th with a 4-6 record.
Elsewhere in high school baseball action yesterday, Fargo-Gage whipped Arnett 17-7, Shattuck blanked Buffalo 16-0, Navajo got all over BFDC 11-1, Hammon shutout Cheyenne 12-0, L-s squeaked by Granite 6-4, Hollis pounded Mangum 10-1, Vici bombed Mooreland 18-4, Cordell doubled up Snyder 16-8,
There was some district soccer action across western Oklahoma as well. In girls soccer action, Elk City shutout Western Heights 4-0, Woodward beat Wford 4-1. On the boys side Elk city blanked Western Heights 1-0, Woodward doubled up 2-1
